Captain's Choice Copper Shaving Bowl

When I first started shaving as a teenager I used a shaving mug. I continued to bowl lather for many years. I bought various mugs and a scuttle and enjoyed using them. About two years ago I switched to face lathering and did that exclusively until recently. About two months ago I started to use a mug again. I began to realize that the lather I was getting from bowl lathering was better and that it was easier to use a bowl when I was getting to the end of a puck - when I would scrape off a few bits of soap and put it into the bowl. One problem, however. I shave rather early and my wife complained that the brush hitting the sides of the mugs and bowl was annoying.

Thus, I was looking at some alternatives and came across this one from Captain's Choice.

It hit everything I was looking for. It was wide enough and low enough so that the clanking would not be a problem. Plus, it was not prone to breaking even if I dropped it - as I sometimes do.

The bowl arrived a few weeks ago and I started using it. I was very impressed. It is well constructed and does a great job. If anyone is in the market for a shaving bowl, I recommend it. His website has ceramic bowls, too. However, the copper one was what I needed.

It was this item that made me realise I don’t have the level of purchase control I thought I had.
It’s a beautiful thing and it can also double up as a cat bowl if you’re that way inclined .

In the distant past I’ve had some minor successes shaping some bits of metal and I know and understand what it takes to make these copper bowls. I’m sure part of that played out in my purchase decision. I know we all have differing tastes, but the workmanship in these things makes them a joy to hold.
Another reason for the copper choice is that as you alluded to, it would probably survive a fall. We have incomplete crockery sets here at home, largely due to my clumsiness - so, it made sense to go the copper route.
